In my professional life, I research approaches that will improve methods and tools used in the development of information systems. This orientation is centered on understanding the social aspects of computing in workgroups — with information systems designed as if people really matter. I am specifically interested in the boundary area of requirements in which business people and technologists interact.
In my spare time, I deal in Early American Glass. Although my initial interest was in Blown Three Mold, I am now interested in the full range of Early American Glass and Bottles, including blown, molded, engraved, cut and pressed. My main collection now is of glass reference books and catalogs.
More recently, I have started researching the Early American Glass industry. With any luck that will lead to some results in the 2020s.
In the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) , I have been active in workshops of the Special Interest Group on Supporting Group Work (SIGGROUP), and the Special Interest Group on Programming Languages (SIGPLAN).
I am a member of the Westchester and New York Metropolitan chapters of the National American Glass Club, and of the Corning Museum of Glass, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Philadelphia Museum of Art.
I am a regular seller at the Westchester Glass Club Show (April in Greenwich, CT) and at the Cape Cod Glass Show (September in West Barnstable, MA).
During work hours, I can generally be found in the Hawthorne office of the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center.
My academic studies were at the University of Cambridge.
